Carrer de Montsió, 4 gats

We are at the place par excellence of Barcelona's Bohemia, more than a hundred years ago. The place frequented by Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusiñol, a young Pablo Ruiz Picasso (who held there his first informal exhibition of portraits) and many others. A Pere Romeu inspired by the Parisian Le chat noir ran this place for only 6 years... enough to become a showcase of Bohemia, and a springboard for the most successful towards the French capital.

4 gats is located in Casa Martí (a modernist masterpiece building from Josep Puig i Cadafalch), and in its corner, there is a sculpture from Josep Llimona: Saint Joseph and Jesus child. If you know how to look, very close to the entrance door of 4 gats you will find a plaque that tells the misfortune that this sculpture experienced during the Civil War.
